The woman, K Nadhiya, asked her daughter to bring her classmates and befriended them. She targeted middle- and lower middle class families with a grand design in her mind.  Police had received a tip off about a prostitution racket involving school going girls and teens and kept a watch. On May 18 anti vice-squad team of Greater Chennai police, headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajalakshmi and inspector Selvarani, raided a lodge in Chennai and rescued two girls aged 18 and 17.  Police arrested Nadhiya and six pimps who are identified as Ramachandran, Sumathi, Maya Oli, Jayashree, and Ramachandran all from different parts of Chennai and Ashok Kumar of Coimbatore. Police seized seven cell phones and a car from the arrested persons.

According to police, Nadhiya had lured the girls by joining her dance classes for free and teaching them a beauty course, as it would help them earn money during their free time as a part time job. Without knowing her clandestine design, they joined her classes. After gaining their confidence and knowing financial crisis or needs, she would target them and lure them with cash of Rs 25000 to Rs 35,000.  The mastermind coached them to tell their parents with false or concoct  lies and reasons for their absence over night or for days ,whenever the teens needed to go to other cities with her clients or  to stay overnight at her house. Preliminary enquiries by the police showed that some of her clients had taken the teenage girls to Hyderabad and Delhi. Her customers included aged persons from Hyderabad and Coimbatore cities whose choice was fresh school girls and were ready to pay any amount.

The police said, “It is revealed that Nadhiya targeted her daughter’s classmates after reviewing their social media profiles. The girls from low-income families became her prey as she became friendly on the pretext of teaching them dance and beauty related courses.”

For the girls who resisted her move or refused to go with the customers, she would threaten them, saying the videos of the students with the clients would be sent to their parents.  She used to source clients through social media handles, get in touch with them to clinch a deal by showing pictures of school students. She would always treat clients personally and fix the rate, time, place, etc.

The police said that the girls are being counselled by officials from the Child Line and Child Welfare committee. Officials of the District Child Protection Unit (south) and Child Line are helping survivors. The police are planning to invoke POCSO and IPC sections on them. They are also trying to find out if any other girls, women were exploited by her.

Recently, a Fast Track Mahila Court in Srivilliputhur convicted Nirmala Devi, the prime accused in the 2018 case involving a bid to lure female college students into giving sexual favours to Madurai Kamaraj university officials in exchange for marks and financial support. The high-profile case came to light after an audio clip purportedly of the former Devanga Arts College assistant professor attempting to lure the female students was circulated online. The courts gave her 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2.42 lakh.

In the famous Pollachi sexual assault racket that came to light after a 19-year-old college student filed a complaint in February, 2019. She detailed that she had been sexually assaulted by four men in a car. The men took a video of the assault and blackmailed the victim, threatening to share the video if they were not given payment.

Young, good looking Women were, allegedly, befriended by men on social media, after which they were asked to meet up with them in secluded areas. There, the men would assault them while others recorded videos, which they used to extort further sexual favours and eventually, money from them. The 19-year-old victim was apparently the first of many to file a complaint, the others remaining silent for fear of the social stigma attached to sexual assault.

Many said, “There have been other such exposes involving sons of ruling politicians preying on the young girls. Parents are now worried of the security of their daughters, sisters, and in-laws after recurring incidents like love jihads, enticing cinema or television chances, foreign visits and employment with lucrative offers, drama love by VCK cadres, college front of India ( CFI,  on offshoot of banned PFI). They target young good looking girls with good financial background to lure them into a love trap. Later they would sexually assault the girls taking videos to extract money, properties. They would ditch them once the victims became pregnant and in advanced stage as they can’t medically terminate the same. The culprits would be given high end car, bikes, costumes, and perfumes with foreign branded cigarettes by their handlers. Despite their shabby and gauche appearance with unkempt hair and unshaven face, girls fall prey to their trap. This has now moved down from office going women  to college students and school going teenage girls level. Despite POCSO act was brought in 2012  after Delhi Nirbaya incident, there is no end to it”.
