Security forces have once again tasted a major success against the Maoist outfit in the insurgency-hit Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on May 20, according to reports. According to the details received, a joint team of security personnel have apprehended as many as 10 active members of the proscribed CPI Maoist.

The development took place when a joint team of district police and the personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were out on a combing/search operation in the Maoist-hit Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, where they nabbed a total of 10 Maoist cadres.

Those arrested include Madavi Buska, militia commander of the Eranpalli Revolutionary People’s Council (RPC) of the outlawed CPI Maoist. Buska was carrying a bounty of Rs1 lakh on his head.

Confirming the development, Superintendent of Police (SP), Kiran Chauhan said that a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), police and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) unit of CRPF have arrested Madavi Buska, Madavi Joga and Madkam Deva near Duled village of Sukma, 7 other Maoist have also been nabbed in the counter-insurgency drive.

Those who have been apprehended by the personnel were reportedly involved in carrying out various illegal activities on behest of the Maoist outfit.

Massive drive against the outlaws in Bastar

It must be noted that the operations of the security forces in the remote regions of Bastar have gained momentum in the last 4-5 months, resulting in the arrest of more than 150 cadres of the proscribed outfit in a separate manhunt launched.

Other than the arrest made by the forces, a significant rise in the surrender of the Maoists has also been noticed in recent months, as a total of 375 members of the outlawed outfit have surrendered before the authorities in the last 3-4 months citing discrimination and disgruntlement with the Maoist ideology.

Further, the forces in separate operations carried out in the hinterlands of erstwhile Maoist bastions like Maad and pockets of Bijapur have neutralised more than 110 Maoists in this year alone.
