On May 15, 2024, a Pakistani lawmaker drew a scathing contrast between the education systems of Pakistan and India during a speech at the Pakistan parliament, a video of which has gone viral. “The condition in Karachi is such that while thr whole world is going to the moon, our children are dying by falling into gutters,” said Syed Mustafa Kamal during a National Assembly address while drawing comparison between the two countries.
He said 30 years ago, our neighbouring India taught its children what is now the most demanding in the world. Today, Indians are CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of to 25 global firms. “Today, if India is booming then, it is because, they were taught what was needed to be taught. Our IT exports are seven Arab dollars, whereas India’s exports are 270 Arab Dollars, the MQM leader said in a video that is now making the rounds on social media.
During his speech, the Pakistani MP also highlighted the dire state of illiteracy in schools, saying that there are over two crore children who are not able to attend school. If we just focus on this, lack of education, the leaders of the country shouldn’t get sleep, the Pakistani MP added.
After the Pakistani lawmaker’s video went viral on X, there was a lot of chatter on Indian social media about the comparison made by the MQM leader. “Pakistan should start comparing itself with Afghanistan and Bangladesh, that will hopefully be a feel-good factor for its sulking politicians. No Point in comparing apples to oranges, India is now in another orbit,” said one of the users on the microblogging website X.
