Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Assam Police seized 1.2 kg of heroin from a truck in Karimganj district. One drug smuggler has been apprehended in connection with the illicit substance. The arrested drug smuggler is identified as Saibuddin.

According to officials, the estimated market value of the seized heroin is approximately Rs 10 crore. Partha Protim Das, the Superintendent of Police for Karimganj district, revealed that the operation was conducted based on confidential information.

The police team deployed a naka checking setup at the Dharmanagar Basti area under the Badarpur police station, where they intercepted the truck. Upon inspection, authorities discovered 110 soap cases containing heroin, hidden within the front seat of the vehicle. The truck, originating from Aizawl in Mizoram, was promptly intercepted by law enforcement.

The individual apprehended in connection with the seizure has been identified as Siabuddin. Investigations into the matter are currently ongoing, as authorities work to dismantle the drug trafficking network responsible for the transportation of illegal substances.

The successful operation by the Assam Police underscores their commitment to combating drug-related crimes in the region. With the apprehension of an individual and the seizure of a significant quantity of heroin, law enforcement agencies are sending a clear message that illegal drug activities will not be tolerated. Further updates on the investigation are awaited as authorities continue their efforts to maintain law and order in Assam.

Meanwhile, Manipur Police on May 15, arrested three drug smugglers, including two women in Nambol Maibam Chingmang, Bishnupur District. Police seized 13 soap caches full of suspected heroin from the possession of the arrested drug smugglers. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rukshana (25), Rabina alias Thambal (48), and Md. Sabir Khan (30). Police also seized a four-wheeler vehicle used by the drug peddlers gang.
