Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam in Vemulawada, which is located in the Rajanna Siricilla district, on May 8. During his visit, he offered his prayers to the main deity of the temple, Bhagwan Shiva, and this temple is famously referred to as Dakshin Kashi. Nestled in the quaint town of Vemulawada, the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple stands as a testament to centuries of devotion and cultural heritage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed by temple officials and pujaris, who performed a traditional welcome ceremony. He offered flowers and performed pooja to Mahanandi and Gomata before proceeding to the sanctum sanctorum of Rajarajeswara Swamy. Inside the temple, the chief pujaris offered tilakadharana to Modi and presented him with flowers.

Significance of  Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Devasthanam

The Sri Raja Rajeshwara Temple holds significant cultural and religious importance in Telangana, India. Dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva, it is revered by devotees for its ancient architecture and spiritual ambience. The temple attracts pilgrims from far and wide who seek blessings and spiritual solace. Historically, the region was the capital of the Vemulawada Chalukyas, who ruled from 750 to 973 CE.

The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy who is locally known as Rajanna and is adorned by the murti of Raja Rajeshwari Devi on the right side and the murti of Laxmi Sahitha Siddi Vinayaka on the left. Within the temple premises numerous shrines known as upalayas are dedicated to different deities, including Ananta Padmanabha Swamy, Rama accompanied by Seetha and Laxmana, Anjaneya Swamy, and others. Each of these deities has a separate shrine within the temple.

Voting for all 17 seats in Telangana will take place on May 13 in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. In the 2019 general election, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) won nine seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party four, Congress three and AIMIM one seat. The Lok Sabha polls are being held across seven phases till June 1 and votes will be counted on June 4.
