Tensions flared in Ektanagar on Ajwa Road, Vadodara, on the night of Wednesday, March 13, as clashes erupted between Hindu and Muslim groups, resulting in injuries to several individuals. The conflict stemmed from an altercation sparked by objections raised by a Muslim mob regarding the playing of the Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers at the Hanumanji temple in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the situation escalated around 7:30 pm when a group of Muslims arrived at the temple to voice their disapproval of the religious chants being broadcasted. A heated exchange ensued between the two communities, culminating in stone-pelting and acts of vandalism allegedly perpetrated by the Muslim mob.
Two teenagers, identified as Harish Sarnia and Deepak Sarnia, who were present at the temple initially, found themselves embroiled in the altercation with members of the Muslim community, including Raheel Sheikh. The clash resulted in injuries to Deepak, Harish, and Raheel, who were subsequently rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
Promptly responding to the escalating situation, Vadodara police arrived at the scene to restore order and bring the situation under control. An FIR has been lodged at Vadodara’s Bapod police station against five Muslims, two Hindus, and a group of approximately 25 individuals from both communities, with investigations underway.
Manoj Ninama, Joint Police Commissioner of Vadodara, addressed the incident, highlighting the diverse religious demographics of Ektanagar and the prompt police response. He assured that strict actions would be taken against those found responsible for instigating violence, emphasising the commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of residents.
In the latest developments, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the clashes, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The investigation continues, leveraging video evidence, witness testimonies, and other pertinent information to ascertain the full extent of the incident and hold perpetrators accountable.
