IIT Delhi’s department of humanities and social sciences introduces MA in culture, society and thought

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has introduced a new Master of Arts (MA) programme in Culture, Society, and Thought. This innovative programme, introduced by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences will begin from July 2024. The programme is designed in such a way that it offers students a comprehensive understanding of the intricate dynamics between culture, society, and thought. The MA course will be a full time two year course divided in four semesters, and the curriculum is crafted to provide a holistic perspective that will encourage students to explore the varied aspects of human existence.

As per the official schedule released by IIT Delhi, the application forms for the new innovative programme will be available from March 20, 2024. Application form will be available till April 4, 2024. The admission test will be conducted on May 18, 2024. The online interview will be conducted on May 27 and 28, 2024.

Under this programme, students will undergo comprehensive training to critically examine contemporary aspects through core disciplines of Sociology, Literature, and Philosophy. The central focus will be on themes related to culture, society, and thought. The IIT Delhi’s MA programme aims to equip students with varied theoretical, methodological approaches and provide them with the tools to critically reflect on the complexities of the modern world.

Who is eligible to apply for IIT Delhi’s MA programme?

As per the official information, students who fulfil the following academic qualifications will be eligible to enrol for this programme.

  • Completed graduation with BA degree in any discipline with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • Students belonging to SC/ST/PH category applicants can apply with 50% or equivalent CGPA
  • Candidates who have first design in any streams like B.Tech., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Des., B.Ed., etc can apply. Whereas those belonging to SC/ST/PH should have 55% marks or equivalent CGPA in the same category.
  • Candidates who have completed graduation of three year and four year UG programme are both eligible for this MA programme by IIT Delhi.
  • Graduates with a  four year UG programme will not be given any credit waiver.
  • IIT Delhi’s B.Tech. advanced standing students are eligible to take this course.

The performance in the qualifying degree will be evaluated by consolidating the results from all semesters and years of the degree program. Students who are in the final year and expect to complete all their qualifying degree requirements before the third week of July 2024, can also apply for admission.

To get admission in the IIT Delhi’s Master of Arts (MA) program in Culture, Society, and Thought students should qualify the written test and online interview. Students’ performance in the written exam conducted by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences or the score secured by the student in XH subject of GATE exam will be considered. Those who qualify the written test/ GATE score will be called up for an interview. The purpose of the written/ oral exam is to evaluate the basic numerical and logical reasoning skills; analytical abilities; and reading and comprehension of the student.
