Gaza Strip: IDF officer exposes Al-Jazeera journalist Mohamed Washah as key Hamas commander during operation

An Israeli army spokesperson well versed in Arabic language has revealed that one seasoned journalist Mohamed Washah, affiliated with the Al-Jazeera news agency is also a senior commander of the anti-tank wing of Hamas after one of his laptop and documents were recovered by soldiers from the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) during an operation in Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Army has claimed that a Palestinian journalist, working for Al-Jazeera is also a senior commander affiliated to Hamas military wing, according to pictures and data along with documents recovered by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip.

Lieutenant Colonel Avichay Adrae, the IDF Arabic language spokesperson said that evidence was retrieved from the laptop of Mohamed Washah, who has reportedly featured in Al-Jazeera broadcasts in the recent months.

Adrae said that the evidence was recovered from Washah’s laptop, during an IDF operation several weeks ago inside one of the Hamas camps in the northern Gaza Strip. Israel claimed that the evidence revealed Washah was a prominent commander in the Hamas anti-tank missile unit, and in late 2022, he commenced working in research and development for the terror groups air unit.

“From the findings from his computer, it appears that in addition to his role as a journalist, Mohamed, born in 1986 in al-Burij is a senior military operative in the anti-tank missile system of Hamas and at the end of 2022, he moved to work in the research and development of aerial weapons for the terrorist organisation,” according to Adree.

“The Intelligence investigation conducted on the computer reveals images linking the person called Mohamed Washah to activities within Hamas. Who knows how many details we will reveal about the presence of other terrorists in the journalistic garb,” he tweeted.

The IDF took a swipe at Al-Jazeera, a Qatari state-owned television news network on X. “Hey Al-Jazeera, we thought your journalists were supposed to give unbiased reports on the situations, not actively participate in creating them on the front lines as Hamas terrorists, the IDF tweeted. Last month, two Al-Jazeera journalists named Hamza Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya, who were killed in an airstrike in Rafah, Gaza were later accused by the IDF of being members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad Terror Groups.

According to the IDF spokesperson, the two terrorist operatives used drones before assassination in a way that caused a real threat to the IDF forces. In response the Israeli soldiers directed Air Force aircraft to attack the terrorists who were responsible for their operation. One of them is the son of the head of Al-Jazeera bureau in Gaza, Wael Dahdouh who has been photographed several times with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
