In a shocking incident that unfolded on January 16 in Patna, Bihar, a government official named Arvind Kumar Singh was brutally assaulted, reportedly by relatives of prominent political figure Lalu Yadav. The accused individuals have been identified as Tanuj Yadav and Nayan Yadav, who are the sons of RJD leader Nagendra.

Arvind Singh, an executive officer working for the state government and hailing from Gopalganj district, suffered major injuries, including significant eye injuries and multiple wounds. The victim was subsequently transferred to Delhi for further treatment.

As per the initial authorities’ statements, the incident is said to have occurred due to a driving dispute between the two parties. However, eyewitness Vijay Kumar Singh, the victim’s brother, offered a different narrative.

According to Vijay, he and his brother were on their way to the Boring Road area when they were accosted by a group of men demanding their car keys. The situation escalated, leading to an assault on Arvind with an iron rod as he attempted to intervene.

Vijay claimed that one of the attackers identified himself as Tanuj Yadav, stating that he is Nagendra Yadav’s son and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s grandson. Contradicting media reports, RJD sources mentioned that Nagendra Yadav has no familial relations with Lalu Yadav.

“We were on the way from Gola Road to our Boring Canal Road residence around 9.20 p.m. on Tuesday when goons stopped our SUV and hit its bonnet. When my brother Arvind Kumar Singh stepped down from the SUV to talk, they attacked him with iron rods. All the accused were in an inebriated condition at the time of the incident. One of the attackers revealed his name as Tanuj Yadav, son of Nagendra Yadav, and that Lalu Prasad Yadav was his grandfather and we could do whatever we wanted,” the victim’s brother Vijay Singh said.

Arvind Kumar Singh sustained severe injuries to his head and eyes and is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Danapur ASP Abhinav Dheeman confirmed the incident, stating, “We have registered an FIR and are making efforts to identify and arrest the accused.” The police have reportedly booked Tanuj Yadav, his brother Nayan Yadav, and several others in connection with the assault.

The BJP, in response, questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s governance, alleging a return to ‘Jungle Raj’ in the state. The party criticised the lack of prompt police action against the accused, attributing it to their close relations with Lalu Prasad Yadav.
