In a remarkable display of interfaith unity, a 20-year-old Muslim woman named Shabia, hailing from Nartauli village in Bahua block, Fatehpur district, reportedly tied the knot with her 22-year-old Hindu partner, Sanjay, from the neighboring Sonbarsa village. The couple’s marriage was commenced on December 27 in Tambeshwar Shiva temple, adhering to Hindu rituals and traditions.
Despite their enduring relationship of three years, Shabia’s family vehemently opposed the interfaith union. The couple had initially planned a court wedding to formalise their commitment. However, their intentions were disrupted when Shabia’s family created a commotion at the court premises. Undeterred by the opposition, the young couple found support from members of Hindu organizations, including Bajrang Dal.
The turning point came when the couple, under the protective embrace of Hindu groups, proceeded to Tambeshwar Shiva temple. Despite familial objections, they took seven ceremonial rounds around the sacred fire, symbolizing their marital vows, accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras. Notably, the wedding ceremony was attended by members of Bajrang Dal, highlighting the communal harmony exhibited by the diverse community.
Post the wedding ceremony, Shabia, now known as Sita after her conversion to Sanatana Dharma, boldly asserted, “I have been having an affair with Sanjay since I was 17 years old. It has nothing to do with religion. Now I am 20 years old. I am an adult, and I have full right to decide my life.” The couple, undeterred by the opposition, received a monetary gift of Rs 10 thousand from the Hindu organizations to support their new beginning.
Following their nuptials, the newlyweds departed for Delhi, embarking on a new chapter in their lives. The union not only signifies the resilience of love transcending religious boundaries but also highlights the communal support fostered by members of the community who rallied behind the couple in the face of opposition.
