Security forces tasted major success in insurgency-hit Koraput of Odisha after it recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition on Wednesday, December 27. According to the reports, a team of Special Operation Groups (SOG) in a combing operation launched in the forest area of Machkund busted an impermanent Maoist camp and recovered materials used in explosive making.
A team of SOG was dispatched near the Kodaput and Gumudaput villages under Machkund police station limits of Koraput district after receiving reliable intelligence, where it recovered materials like Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), live cartridges, country made pistol and other explosive materials.
The team recovered as many as 17 tiffin IEDs along with seizing codex wire, detonators near the Andhra-Odisha borders planted by the extremists with an aim to harm the security personnel. It’s been reported that after unearthing of the materials the team also conducted an extensive search near the vicinity of the spot.

It is to be noted that off late the security forces have been conducting continuous search operation in the Maoist affected regions adjoining Odisha border. Earlier a similar operation launched in the jungle area of Kurmanur under Kalimela police station limits of insurgency-hit Malkangiri district has also led to the unearthing of a Maoist dump on December 24th.
Two Maoist surrendered in Dantewda
In other news as many as two cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) including a militia commander has surrender before the security forces in Maoist infested Dantewada of Chhattisgarh on Thursday, December 28, informed sources.
According to the reports, militia commander Shankar alias Pojja along with Dashru Kujam, a member of the medical team of the Ganglur Area Committee of the outlawed CPI Maoist surrender before the police, citing inhuman behavior and hollow ideology of the Maoist outfit. Shankar was active in the Manglur Area Committee of the banned outfit and was carrying a bounty of Rs one lakh on his head.
Surrendered Maoists will be provided all the benefits of the surrender and rehabilitation scheme so that they can live a life with dignity with their families informed Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP), Gaurav Rai while appealing to the extremist to surrender before the forces.
The surrender occurred days after as many as five Maoist involved in separate incident of violence carried out by the Maoist outfit also turned themselves before the security forces and surrendered in Bastar.
Lone Varatu Campaign
It’s been learnt that the surrendered occurred under the Lone Varatu (an appeal for homecoming in local Gondi dialect) campaign, a flagship scheme being run by the districts administration and security forces in the Maoist affected Dantewada district.
It is worth mentioning here, that as many as 654 former cadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist including a total of 167 carrying a bounty on their heads have so far chosen to surrender and shun the path of violence under the flagship scheme.
It is to be noted that earlier the Chief Minister, Vishnu Deo Sai after assuming charge held a security meet with the concerned officials and vowed to eradicate the left wing insurgency with the cooperation of the union government in the mineral rich state.
