Assam Police busts interstate fake currency racket, arrests four smugglers along with mastermind Idris and Anuwar

The operation undertaken by the Assam police is a significant breakthrough in the fight against counterfeit currency circulation in the region. This has underscored the diligent efforts of the Assam police in maintaining law and order and preventing criminal activities that undermine the nation’s financial integrity.

The operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals involved in the illicit trade, which included a female suspect from Nagaland. Furthermore, the alleged masterminds behind the racket, identified as Idris and Anuwar, are currently in police custody.

Acting on a tip regarding Fake Indian currency notes (FICN), a search and raid operation was conducted at Uttar Simaluguri under Kachua police station in the middle Assam district of Nagaon. During the raid, one FICN printing machine, one bundle of white paper wrapped in FICN, three mobile handsets, nine nos of FICN of Rs 500 denomination ( worth Rs 4.5 lakhs) and a vehicle was recovered.

Four accused, including one each from Nagaland and Manipur have been arrested for further lawful action. The raid was conducted at around 3.30 PM and continued till midnight. The search and raid operations were conducted at Uttar Simaluguri under Kachua police station. The raid was conducted in the residence of one Idrish Ali after receiving confirmed intelligence input. Four FICN smugglers have been arrested by Nagaon police in the raid. The apprehended persons were identified as  Md Idrish Ali (57), Anuwar Hussain (31), both from Nagaon district, Yuikhan A Shimray (32) of  Ukhrul district of Manipur and Miss Viseno (29) of Chumukedima district in Nagaland.

On October 10, the Guwahati city police team and a team from Jalukbari outpost jointly busted a network of thugs running a FICN racket after one Mofidul Islam (29) and one Rofikuddin of Lakhimpur district in Assam were arrested. A raid at the premises of the latter at Mirza rail gate led to the recovery of 1 FICN printing machine, FICN 216,500 of ₹500 denominations.

Guwahati city police on the night of September 20 conducted an operation to bust the Fake Indian Currency Note (FICN) racket active in the city. City police in the operation successfully seized FICN Rs 3.33 lakhs. The currency notes were of Rs 500 denominations. Two raids were conducted. A police team from Jorabat outpost under Basistha police station in Guwahati raided and busted a FICN racket and arrested 3 illegal traders. They were identified as – Md Abdul Kadir and Samiruddin, both from Lakhimpur district.

On August 29 this year, in a successful crackdown against fake Indian currency notes (FICN) racket, Assam Police seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth Rs 10 lakhs in Guwahati and arrested two FICN smugglers. Garchuk police station and a Special Operations Group jointly conducted an operation on August 29 morning and arrested notorious FICN smugglers Sariful Islam and Sajjadul Islam and seized the fake notes amounting to 10 lakhs in 500 Rupee denomination.
