69th ABVP’s National Conference: Selection process underway for Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award

The 2023 award ceremony is scheduled to take place during the proposed National Conference of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), set to be held in Delhi from December 7 to 10. The much-anticipated event not only honours the memory of Professor Kelkar but also celebrates the exceptional accomplishments of young achievers. The Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award carries a cash prize of one lakh rupees, a certificate of honour, and a memento, making it one of the most coveted recognitions for young talents across the nation.

Applications for this prestigious award have been pouring in from all corners of the country, a testament to the growing influence and significance of this recognition. This award, which was first introduced in 1991, has consistently sought to identify and acknowledge exceptional contributions in public service, education, sports, environment, technology, and social work.

Professor Yeshwantrao Vasudev Kelkar, in whose honour this award is presented, was born on April 25, 1925, in the Pandharpur region of Solapur district in Maharashtra. Right from a young age, he displayed remarkable intelligence and dedication to the service of the nation. From 1945 to 1952, Professor Kelkar served as a Pracharak in the Nashik and Solapur districts of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His unwavering commitment to the principles of the organisation laid the foundation for his later accomplishments.

In 1967-1968, Professor Kelkar ascended to the position of All India President of the ABVP, a period marked by significant expansion and organisational strengthening of ABVP across India. His leadership and vision have left an indelible mark on the organisation, inspiring generations of youth to contribute to the betterment of society.

Commenting on the commencement of the selection process for the 2023 Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award, ABVP National General Secretary Yagywalkya Shukla shared his thoughts. He said, “Professor Yeshwantrao Kelkar’s work in empowering the youth of our nation has inspired a significant number of individuals across various fields. The scrutiny for the Prof Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award- 2023 has begun, with applications received from dedicated individuals in the fields of social service, education, environment, etc. The selection committee will soon choose the most deserving candidate for this prestigious award. The award will be presented to those youths who have made commendable contributions in fields such as social service, technology, sports, etc.”

The Yeshwantrao Kelkar Youth Award has become a symbol of recognition and inspiration for young individuals who are making a difference in their respective fields. It celebrates the legacy of a man who dedicated his life to empowering youth and building a stronger, more prosperous India. As the selection process unfolds, the nation eagerly awaits the announcement of the deserving recipient of this distinguished honour, set to take place at the grand stage of the National Conference of ABVP in December.
