In the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup hosted in India, a young Virat Kohli was part of the Indian team that clinched the coveted trophy for the first time since 1983. Now, in 2023, the World Cup is back on Indian soil, and Virat Kohli is ready to don the blue jersey and embark on another journey towards glory. Not only will Kohli be competing at home, but he is also on the verge of creating history, one that would make him join the ranks of cricketing legends.

Today Indian team will lock horns with Afghanistan. As we all know, Virat Kohli and Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq had a heated exchange during an IPL match in 2023. The altercation occurred when Naveen’s short ball hit Kohli’s helmet while he was batting for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Lucknow Super Giants. Both players were fined 100% of their match fees, with Naveen admitting to a Level 1 offence. Speculation about their relationship remains, as neither has commented publicly. It remains to be seen if this incident will affect their interactions when India and Afghanistan face off in today’s match.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium, holds a special place in Virat Kohli’s heart. He has an impressive record at this historic ground, having played seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) with an average of 44.40 and a strike rate of 89.51, accumulating a total of 222 runs. During these innings, Kohli recorded a century and a half-century. The stadium is famous for being the venue where Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most runs scored in ODIs.

Sachin Tendulkar, a cricketing legend, scored a total of 300 runs in eight ODIs at Arun Jaitley Stadium with an average of 37.50 and a strike rate of 94.33. Like Kohli, he too has an ODI century and a half-century at this venue. To surpass Tendulkar and become the highest run-scorer in ODIs at this stadium, Kohli needs 79 more runs. Currently, Kohli occupies the fifth spot in this list.

While Kohli’s ODI records at Arun Jaitley Stadium are remarkable, his Test performances are equally commendable. In four Test matches at this venue, Kohli has scored 531 runs in eight innings. However, Sachin Tendulkar maintains his dominance in this format with 759 runs in 10 matches. As for T20 Internationals, England’s Jason Roy tops the list with 125 runs in three matches. Kohli has played only one T20 International at his home ground, amassing 26 runs.
