On September 25, Karnataka Police announced the apprehension of Maulana Abdul Samad Ziyayi, a 25-year-old cleric originally from West Bengal.

He was taken into custody on charges of sexually assaulting a minor boy within a mosque located in the Uttara Kannada district.

He was arrested following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father. According to the police, the boy used to visit the mosque every day to recite verses of the Quran.

Tragically, on the night of September 23, the accused manipulated and reportedly subjected the boy to sexual abuse.

In response to the complaint, Kumta police registered a case under the POCSO Act.

The accused was presented before the District Sessions’ Court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

Further investigations are underway.

Organiser reported a case from Uttar Pradesh in March this year where, father of a 14-year-old boy gave a complaint to the Aligarh police alleging, a cleric at the madarsa raped his son.

The cleric, who was also a senior student at the madarsa was identified as Altmas Noman.

A case was registered at the Roravar police station of the Aligarh District. Citing the seriousness of the matter, the police arrested the accused immediately.

As per the media reports, Noman a resident of Muzaffarnagar was a teacher at Arbia Mufkta Uloom madrasa. He lived at the madrasa only with other children, in the absence of teachers he took junior classes.

On March 27, Noman held a 14-year-old boy who was sleeping in the room at the madrasa. Later he assaulted him sexually and threatened him with dire consequences if he dared tell anyone.

The next day, on March 28, the minor boy reached home, and he was upset. The family members questioned him politely, after which he broke his silence and shared everything with his parents.

As soon as the victim’s father learned the truth, he reached the police station and registered a complaint against the accused.

Notably, the locals also thrashed the accused Noman upon learning the truth.
