Once again an interfaith relationship ended with the death of Hindu women. On September 10, the dead body of a 20-year-old girl, identified as Mehek Sharma, was found in Assam’s Dibrugarh. The prime suspect, Aziz Ahmed, was lying next to Mehek without any injuries to make it look like an accident.

As per the reports, the body of the victim girl with severe injuries was found lying on the road near a car bearing registration number AS-06-AH-1143 in the middle of the Dibrugarh bypass. The police located the body at around 4:15 a.m. on September 10.

Besides the victim’s body, a man identified as Aziz Ahmed was lying with no injuries. He was lying there just to present this alleged murder as an accident to the police, claim reports. The car belonged to Aziz.

Notably, Mehek Sharma lived in the Khalihamari area of Dibrugarh district in Assam, and Aziz Ahmed was a resident of Maijan in Dibrugarh.

The police investigation revealed that Aziz Ahmed, who is married and the father of two children, has been pressuring Mehek to marry him for the last six months.

On September 9, Aziz took Mehek for a drive with him at around 3:30 p.m. Mehek had known Aziz. She lives with her mother.

It has been alleged that she has been distancing herself from Aziz ever since she learned about her marriage and child. But Aziz kept on pressuring her to continue their relationship. Aziz and Mehek came in contact with each other at a common friend’s birthday party in Dibrugarh.

Mehek’s mother Moushumi Sharma alleged that her daughter was forcefully taken to the drive by the accused and that he had killed her.

Police said that blood stains were found inside the car, and scratch marks of nails were discovered on Aziz Ahmed’s neck.

The police also investigated the angle of the accident as both Aziz and Mehek were found lying on the road but the car was intact and had no dent or scratch marks ruling out the possibility of the accident.

The police told media that,  blood stains were also found inside the car and scratch marks of nails were spotted on Aziz Ahmed’s neck.

The Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh district in Assam Shwetank Mishra said that Aziz Ahmed has been taken into custody and an investigation has been launched into the incident.

“We are investigating the incident and evidences are being analysed,” Mishra said.

On social media platform X the police informed, “We are investigating it as a murder case. Accused is apprehended and being examined. An SIT is being formed for early submission of Chargesheet.”

On the other hand, Mehek’s mother told media, “My daughter has been murdered by Aziz Ahmed. He has been troubling my daughter for the past six months. I am a teacher and lived alone with my daughter. When I told him that I will file a police complaint, he threatened us of dire consequences. On September 9, at 3:30 p.m. he forcefully took her out for a drive. At 8:30 pm she called saying that she was having dinner in a dhaba. That was the last phone call from her. Aziz Ahmed killed her in cold blood,” Moushumi Sharma said.

Further interrogation of the accused will reveal the motive behind the murder.

Similar case from the past

Organiser reported a shocking triple murder case in July this year where not only the Hindu woman but her parents were also murdered by Nazibul Rahman in Golaghat town of upper Assam.

On July 24, Nazibul broke into Sanjeev Ghosh’s house in Golaghat town and attacked his daughter Sanghamitra Ghosh, her parents  Sanjeev Ghosh and Junu Ghosh.

It should be mentioned that Nazibul was out of jail on bail. He was arrested by police after his wife, the deceased Sanghamitra filed a complaint of domestic violence. Locals said that Sanghamitra got married with Nazibul a few years ago against the wish of her parents and after marriage Nazibul started torturing Sanghamitra on many occasions.

Sanghamitra was living with her parents ever since she got impregnated in 2021. However, Nazibul used to come to her parents house and used to torture her on several occasions.

Interestingly Sanghamitra’s younger sister Ankita Ghosh, who is studying in a university in Jorhat, was on a video call with the family. She saw how Nazibul stormed into her house and killed her family brutally with a knife. She immediately informed her aunt about the incident and the relatives rushed to Sanjeev Ghosh’s house. By the time, they reached, Nazibul had killed all the three members of the family and fled from the spot.
