In Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district, a heinous case of attack by a stalker came to light. A man identified as Mir Shahrukh killed a 10-year-old boy of a woman just because she refused to his proposal of relationship and marriage. Following the abduction of the minor boy, the accused killed him and dumped his body into a well.

Sushma Mehli, a native of Hisri village in the Lohardaga district, lives with her brother, Narendra Mehli, and his family in the village. On August 26, her 10-year-old son was abducted from the village. After failing to find him, her brother lodged a missing person complaint.

Shockingly, the police found the dead body of the minor child from a well. It was later established that a man named Mir Sharukh had been stalking the woman and had killed the minor as revenge.

What says the FIR?

Organiser accessed the copy of the complaint letter lodged by the woman after the minor went missing. This is what it says;

A First Information Report (FIR number–23/2023) was registered at the Bagru police station of the Lohardaga district on August 26, 2023.

As per the FIR, the victim’s maternal uncle Narendra told the police that his sister Sushma was married to Kishore Mehli in 2013. From this marriage, they had a son named Aman (name changed to protect the identity of the minor), who was born in 2015.

Kishore was an alcoholic and he used to abuse Sushma, it was difficult for her to live with him. Narendra decided to bring his sister back home and he did. Since then, Sushma and Aman have been living with them.

Copy of the FIR as accessed by Organiser

On August 26, Aman left home for school and returned with friends. His friends later took him to the nearby ground where they were playing football. From the ground, Aman did not return home.

After they asked his fellow mates, they said, one Mir Shahrukh from the village took them to get ice cream, and after that, he took them towards the road and threatened two friends of Aman to return. When his friends reached the spot after some time, they could not find Aman.

The family alleged that he had abducted the minor.

What says the victim’s family?

Organiser called Narendra on September 8. It was hurtful for him to recall the dreadful incident but he did share some details.

He said, “The accused Shahrukh was stalking my sister, he had managed to get her number from a WhatsApp group and things were going on. If she had told me about this before, we would have registered a complaint against him and got him arrested,” he added.

When asked what sort of things?

He said, “Shahrukh has been stalking her, he used to call her, follow her and more. He used to send texts asking her to accept his proposal.”

Asked if Sushma ever entertained his calls or talked to him on the phone.

He said he had no idea.

What says the media reports?

As per the media reports, the accused and the woman have had an affair, they were into this relationship for the past 1-2 years. After the villagers and the family knew about it, they disapproved of it. The woman distanced herself and Shahrukh was irked over this. As a result, he abducted the child.

Narendra said, Sushma lives at the home and does not work. Shahrukh on the other hand used to run a meat shop and lives in the same village as them.

He added that the locality they live in has a maximum of Muslim families. He could not share the exact number of houses belonging to the Muslims but he said, there are three mosques in this village but not a single temple. It is just a ‘Madhiya of Mata’ (a small temple-like structure built under the three).

When asked to share the pictures of Shahrukh, Narendra says, he does not have one. Narendra looks after his family and he is the sole breadwinner of the family. They belong to the Vanvasi community, he said.

What says the police?

This correspondent called the Bagdu police station on September 8, to find charges imposed against the accused however the calls went unanswered. As per the FIR the accused has been booked under sections of the abduction, Narendra said, sections for Murder were also imposed against the accused.

While hanging up the call Narendra said, “The accused should be hanged madam, he had done the unthinkable with us”.
