Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah will launch the ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’ in New Delhi today.  The launch of the portal will help the depositors to submit legitimate claims as their money was stuck in four cooperative societies of Sahara Group. These four societies are: Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd, Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd, Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd and Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.

Amit Shah had said that the objective of the Ministry of Cooperation was to take various measures that are aimed at strengthening the cooperative movement in India and also protecting the interests of the people.

Directive of Supreme Court to Refund the Money

It was on March 29th, 2023 that the Supreme Court of India had issued a directive in which it had said that Rs. 5000 Crores be transferred out of the “Sahara-SEBI Refund Account”, to the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) for disbursement against the legitimate dues of the genuine depositors of the Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies. The government had assured that they would ensure that the people whose money was stuck, they are able to get it within nine months.

The move has come as a big respite for 10 crore  investors whose money was stuck with the Sahara group and they had to run from pillar to post to get it back.

Netizens laud the initiative

A number of people took to twitter to hail the move to launch the portal. Nitish Tiwari credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this initiative.

मोदी है तो मुमकिन है। ये बहुत से परिवारों को सुकून देगा।

Another user Satish Pandey said that it was a very good step.

सर बहुत जरूरी है

Sharma Mohitraj said that the BJP led government was hitting the right notes.
