UAE: PM Modi meets COP28 President-designate Sultan Al Jaber

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), met the President-designate of COP28, Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, on July 15, assuring India’s full support for COP-28 presidency to the Gulf nation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Abu Dhabi earlier on July 15, also highlighted India’s efforts and initiatives to address climate change during talks with Sultan Al Jaber. Taking to Twitter, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi, informed of the meeting between the two leaders.

“PM @narendramodi held a productive meeting with Dr Sultan Al Jaber, President-designate of @COP28_UAE and Group CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Dr Jaber briefed PM on the forthcoming COP-28,” Arindam Bagchi tweeted.

“PM assured’s full support for’s COP-28 presidency. PM also highlighted’s efforts and initiatives to address climate change,” Arindam Bagchi added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a dazzling welcome in the United Arab Emirates as the iconic Burj Khalifa was lit up with the colours of the Indian national flag.

As a part of the light-and-sound show at the Burj on July 14, setting the stage for PM Modi’s arrival to the Gulf nation on an official visit, the skyscraper also showcased his picture, followed by a text that read, “Welcome Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister received a ceremonial welcome at the airport, following which he met the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in the United Arab Emirates.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome to the Gulf nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to post, “Grateful to Crown Prince HH Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for welcoming me at the airport today.”

Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s departure from India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a statement released by Prime Minister’s Office, said, “Our two countries are engaged across a wide range of sectors such as trade, investments, energy, food security, science & technology, education, fintech, defence, security, and robust people-to-people ties. Last year, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and I agreed on a Roadmap for the future of our partnership, and I look forward to discussing with him how to further deepen our ties.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that UAE will be hosting the 28th Conference of Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28) later this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that he looked forward to exchanging views on bolstering global cooperation towards accelerating climate action to facilitate energy transition and implementation of the Paris Agreement.

“I am confident that my visit to UAE will usher in a new chapter in our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi added.

The Prime Minister emplaned for the UAE earlier on July 15 after concluding his two-day visit to France.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called his France visit “memorable”, adding that it was more remarkable as he participated in the Bastille Day celebrations. He also expressed gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron and the people of France for their warmth and hospitality.

During his two-day visit to France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the Bastille Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour on July 14.

He visited France at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
