Jayant Sahasrabuddhe, RSS pracharak, Scholar & Organising Secretary of Vijnana Bharati no more

Jayant Sahasrabuddhe (April 17, 1966- June 2, 2023), National Organising Secretary of Vijnana Bharati and Pracharak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, passed away on Friday (June 2) early morning. He was 66. He was being treated for a long time after he met with an accident on September 3, 2022. Since then, his health was continuously deteriorating.

Jayant Sahasrabuddhe played a vital role in expanding Vijnana Bharati’s work globally. From the beginning, he selflessly started working for the motherland. He worked a lot for India, science. He successfully brought the role of Indian Scientists in the country’s independence before the people

After completing BSc in Tech (Electronics) from Mumbai University, he worked at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). As his family already had a long association with RSS, in 1989, he became Sangh Pracharak and served in Maharashtra. From 2002 to 2009, he was Vibhag Pracharak of Goa, and later he remained Prant Pracharak of Konkan Prant.

Since 2009, he had the responsibility of All-India National Organising Secretary of Vijnana Bharati. Many initiatives of Vigyan Bharati, like Viddyarthi Vigyan Manthan, Tech for Seva, IISF, Vishva ved Vigyan Sammelan, Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan etc., were being guided by him. Jayant ji used to give direction to many dimensions of Vijanan Bharati, like the World Ayurveda Foundation, GIST- Global Indian Scientist and Technocrats Forum, and NASYA – National Ayurveda Students Youth Association.

“An intellectual, he brought out the powerful narrative of Struggle for Swatantrata and Science, on the powerful role played several Indian scientists like Acharya Jagdish Chandra Basu, Prafulla Chandra Ray, Mahendralal Sircar, Meghnad Saha etc. He also spoke about Vivekananda and Science, Bharatiya kala Ganana and the national calendar,Patrick Geddes and Bhagini Nivedita, Science in Indian Art forms and Environment. Soft spoken, yet a great orator, Jayantji was extremely disciplined in both his personal and public life. Active every moment of wakeful hours, he was traveling across the country, covering around 600 kms a day for many years now spreading the message of Vijnana Bharati,” said Vijnana Bharati

His scientific knowledge and intellectual prowess enabled him to become an excellent organiser among the scientific community. He made immense contribution to the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav programme. He has been a guiding light and inspiration for many scientific and technological institutes and groups. Even though he lived a very short life, as an organiser and thinker, he has left behind an unparalleled legacy, which will be remembered forever,” said Prajna Pravah in a statement

Vigyan Bharati also known as Swadeshi Science Movement was started in Indian Institite of Science- (Bengaluru) by a few eminent scientists under the guidance of Prof. K I Vasu. This movement gradually gained momentum and emerged as an organisation with national presence. In 1991(Oct 20-21) at the Nagpur meet, it was decided, to launch the Swadeshi Science Movement at all India Level and named it as Vijnana Bharati (Vigyan Bharati). Vigyan Bharati has units in 22 states across the country and contacts in 4 states. It is working in 11 different areas through autonomous institutions, independent organisations & also as project entities.

Notably, Jayant Sahasrabuddhe was a regular contributor to ‘Organiser Weekly’. His demise is a significant loss to the ‘Organiser’ family. His contribution to the area of science is immense. May his soul attain Moksha. May Bhagwan give strength to his family.
