On May 4, 2023, the Russian Government accused the United States of America of being behind what it says was a drone attack on the Kremlin intended to kill President Vladimir Putin.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesperson of the Kremlin, made an allegation in a briefing to reporters saying that the United States of America (USA) should be aware that Russia knew it was selecting targets and Ukraine was just implementing American plans.
However, he did not provide evidence supporting the US involvement claim.
Ukraine denied involvement in the incident in the early hours on May 3, 2023, when video footage displayed two flying objects approaching Kremlin and exploding with a bright flash.
“Attempts to disown this, both in Kyiv and Washington, are, of course, very ridiculous. We know very well that decisions about these actions, about such as terrorist attacks, are not made in Kyiv but in Washington.” Peskov said.
He alleged that the US often selected both the targets for Ukraine to attack and the means to attack them. “This is also often dictated from across the ocean. We know this and are well aware of this, and Washington must clearly understand that we know this.”
The Kremlin said it reserves the right to retaliate but has not said what form this might take. Peskov said Russia had several options, and the response when it came, would be carefully considered and balanced. An urgent investigation was underway, but could not say when the results would be known.
