In the month of April, there have been repeated attacks on Hindu men who were either sitting at a cafe or park with Muslim women. The attackers, all from the Muslim community were seen abusing the women and girls. The questions they asked include, why don’t you find a Muslim man, are all Muslims dead and the most recent why are you hanging out with ‘Gair Muslim’ (Non-Muslim).

These attacks have one thing in common and that is the rage among these vigilantes against Hindus in the name of protecting their daughters. The other shocking thing is they did not spare their own women from this hate.

The videos in circulation are filled with abuses not only for the Hindu men but for their own daughters and sisters as well.

Here is a list of five cases reported in the month of April:

On April 27, a video was shared on Twitter by a verified Twitter user claiming the location to be the Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh. In the said video a mob passed comments judging the character of a Muslim woman whose face was covered. The vigilantes have been hurling abuse on her as she was out with a Hindu man.

Another case of a girl in hijab is getting harassed by her own community men for allegedly roaming with Hindu boy.

Another video was shared on  April 27, from the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra. In the video, the Muslim vigilantes hurled abuses for a burqa-clad girl. They dragged her on the streets to snatch her cell phone. By the end of the video they can be heard saying, ‘Gair Muslim ladke ke sath kyu ghum rahi hai?’

"Tu Hindu ladke ke sath kyu ghum Rahi hai?"

Begumpura Police arrived at the scene after being notified. The police recognised the girl from the video and asked her to file a complaint, though she declined. However, the police started a procedure to file a suo motu case against the three men.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deepak Girhe said, “The three accused, in this case, have been detained by the police on charges of criminal intimidation, stalking, causing bodily harm, and insulting a woman.”

“This incident is of Monday, 24 April. The victim hails from a town in Ahmednagar and is staying in Sambhaji Nagar to prepare for a competition. Police team reached the spot soon after the girl was molested, she was rescued by a family and taken to their home. Then the police team brought her to the station,” the Begumpura Police Inspector Shivaji Taware informed the media. Furthermore, he added, “After taking some information, she was dropped off at her house after some time.”

A video was shared widely on social media by a self-proclaimed journalist on April 24. In this video, a Muslim vigilante can be seen harassing two burqa-clad women who are out on Eid Shopping. The Muslim journalist, Mohammad Tanvir sharing the video wrote, “On the pretext of Eid shopping, taking advantage of the freedom given by the parents, girls are roaming around with strangers. Give freedom to your sisters and daughters. And if any concerned Muslim boy interrupts, she will threaten.”

Another video was shared on April 24, reportedly from the Townhall Nagar Nigam area in Dehradun. In the video Muslim vigilantes can be seen saying ‘Muslaman ki Ladki hai aur Hindu ke ladke ke sath ghum rahi hai”. In the another clip attached with the thread the vigilantes thrashed the Hindu boy. Asking the girls if they were Muslims and have kept fast in Ramzan or not.

A similar case was reported from the Kahndwa district of Madhya Pradesh. Here Muslim vigilantes thrashed a Hindu teacher and a teen boy after they caught them sitting at a cafe with a burqa-clad girl. They asked questions like ‘Ramzan me Namaz padhi thi? and Tumko Musalman kam pad gaye?’.

Notably, in this case the girl and her family decided to register a complaint against the accused. A First Information Report (FIR number–148/2023) was registered as per which, 17-year-old girl daughter of Abdul Hafiz was sitting at a cafe with a Hindu boy, Atul Yadav and a laboratory attendant, Satyam Bavne on 16 April. Within no time a group of Islamists reached the cafe and asked what was the name of the girl. When she said it was their matter, they started abusing them all. On finding they belong to different religious backgrounds, they abused the minor girl saying ‘Why can’t you find Muslim boys to hang out with?’

The state of women in Islam is known to all as in how they are treated mere like a puppet by the male-dominated culture in Islam. There are videos and taqrir available on digital platforms where clerics tell how women in Islam are supposed to adhere to the demands of men.

In a viral video, a cleric who is arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police on charges of rape said, “A Muslim woman, on the verge of giving birth to her child, is supposed to fulfil the sexual desires of her husband if he demands. There is no scope of saying no to the husband in Islam,” He said.

The same cleric had made multiple videos on how women should live and what they should wear, how they are not supposed to hang out with Kaffirs and everything.

This vigilantism is new and includes violence. The attackers track Muslim girls with their attires and barge into even the group of friends, their concern is not saving the women of their community, and that is clear in the way they treat the girls.

This needs to be corrected and requires police intervention. No one should be allowed to take the law into their hands and abuse someone for their personal choices. On one hand, when a Muslim boy lures a Hindu woman by coercing his identity, the same vigilantes talk about choice and freedom.
