Elathur Train Fire accused Shahrukh Saifi has been slapped UAPA by Police. It is paving the wave for the NIA takeover of the case. In this regard, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has submitted the report before the Kozhikode Magistrate Court. The report invokes Clause 16 of UAPA against Saifi. It is intended for murder as a part of terrorist activity. The SIT’s probe in Delhi unearthed that “Saifi was mentored and radicalised” by certain terror groups, it is reported.

Once the State Government invokes UAPA or refers the case to NIA, it (NIA) can take over the case. Saifi’s custody period will expire on April 18. The court will consider his bail petition on the same day. Police, in the custody report submitted before the Judicial Magistrate, had stated that Saifi’s terrorist links are to be probed into.

It is alleged that even though the custody period is almost over, even the evidence collection within the State is not completed. It is reported that Saifi is not taken for interstate evidence collection, as the NIA takeover is imminent.

Evidence collection in Elathur is likely to be carried out on April 17. The mysteries around the dastard action still prevail hence handing over the case to NIA, it is reported.

Meanwhile, there are reports that NIA has been carrying out parallel enquiries. Reports suggest the NIA report to the Central Home Ministry says that train fire’s terrorist links can not be rejected.
