Bihar: Back to back robbery rocks north Bihar as armed robbers looted 60 lakhs from banks, two home guard killed

Armed criminals have looted a total of Rs 60 lakhs in two back-to-back incidents of loot that occurred within 48 hours in Bihar; as per the reports, the first incident occurred when as many as five armed criminals barged into the ICICI bank’s Chakia branch on April 12 and looted around 48 lakhs from the counter.

The shocking development occurred when five criminals, on April 12, afternoon barged into the ICICI bank in Bajrangi Nagar under Chakia police station limits of Motihari (East Champaran) and looted a whopping amount (around 48 lakhs) from the counter; the robbers also took away jewellery of a woman from the premises and fled towards the Kunawa village, reported a local daily.

It’s been reported that the robbers had arrived on two motorcycles and quickly managed to flee the crime scene after the loot; it’s been learnt that the attackers first enquired about the procedure of opening a bank account, and then suddenly they waved their weapons and took away the case by force, the attackers also damaged the CCTV camera before proceeding with the robbery.

Learning about the incident, a police team immediately arrived at the branch and initiated a manhunt to jab the accused; it’s been reported that the district SP, Kantesh Mishra, has also constituted an SIT to ban the robbers.

Homeguards killed by armed robbers in Saran

While in another similar incident, armed robbers barged into the Punjab National Bank’s (PNB) Barbatta branch near DRM office Sonepur of Saran district and looted around Rs 12 lakh in cash on April 13, afternoon.

The robbers also opened indiscriminate fire upon the home guards deployed in the branch, which two home guards died; it’s been reported that after being hit by the bullets, one of the guards died on the spot while the other was rushed to Patna was he later died of his injuries.

It’s been learnt that the robbers who had arrived on the motorcycles barged into the bank, where the home guards confronted them. However, the armed robbers immediately started firing, in which a home guard personnel died on the spot; the deceased has been identified as Mahesh Shah, a resident of Govind Chak village of Sonepur.

The other personnel who got gravely injured in the firing was identified as Naresh Rai; he was immediately rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Patna, where he succumbed to his injuries; Naresh was too a resident of Sonepur.

It’s been reported that police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and an SIT has been subsequently constituted; the police team have secured the CCTV footage on whose basis the robbers are being hunted, and the police have also set up several check posts to nab the accused. The state’s law and order situation is under scanner after several incidents of recent kidnapping, looting, and extortion have come to light.
