On February 28, Nagpur Police received an anonymous phone call threatening to blow up the residences of Mukesh Ambani, Amitabh Bachchan, and Dharmendra. The caller also claimed that 25 people reached Dadar, Mumbai, with arms to execute the attacks.

The Nagpur Police alerted Mumbai Police about the call and shared all information. Mumbai Police dispatched bomb squads to conduct searches at these locations. Mumbai Police has taken over the case to investigate the matter and nab the caller. However, whether the anonymous call was a hoax cannot be confirmed.

In 2021, Mumbai Police’s Crime Intelligence Unit detained two people for spreading rumours about bombs at three railway stations and Amitabh Bachchan’s residence.

On February 25, 2021, an abandoned Scorpio was found near Mukesh Ambani’s residence ‘Antilia’ with 20 loose gelatine sticks and a note threatening Ambani’s family. The abandoned Scorpio was tracked back to Mansukh Hiren, a Mumbai-based businessman, who had reported the vehicle stolen a week before the incident.

On March 5, 2021, Mansukh Hiren was found dead in a Mumbai creek after being ‘missing’ for hours. On March 6, 2021, Hiren’s wife alleged that Mumbai Police’s encounter specialist Sachin Vaze killed her husband. On March 13, 2021, NIA interrogated Sachin Vaze and arrested him concerning the Antilia bomb scare case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court directed to provide Mukesh Ambani, including his family members, with Z+ security cover throughout India and abroad. The Supreme Court also stated that Mukesh Ambani and his family would bear the cost and expenses related to the Z+ cover.

The Supreme Court noted that the State of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, will ensure Mukesh Ambani and his family’s security while in India. However, when Mukesh Ambani and his family travel abroad, the MHA will ensure their security.
