Armed cadres of CPI Maoists brutally killed a villager in the Raigarh block of Nabarangpur in Odisha on February 23. The incident occurred when a total of 25 armed cadres of proscribed CPI Maoist barged into a villager’s house in Khalepara village and took him into the nearby field, where he was strangled to death.

The deceased has been identified as Chandan Mallick (42); it’s been learnt that Chandan was tied with a rope and beaten black and blue before the Maoists strangled him to death.

It’s been reported that after the murder, the Maoists also left pamphlets before fleeing the spot in which they alleged Chandan to be a police informer.

The Ultras also accused the Nabarangpur SP and police of Odisha and Chhattisgarh state of the murder.

“Chandan has been passing sensitive information about the movements and activities of our dalams for which he had already been warned in the Jan Adalat (Maoist’s Kangaroo court), though despite our warning, he continued his work for the police; thus, he was given the death penalty, read the pamphlet recovered from the spot.

It’s been learnt that the Udanti area committee of the outlawed group has claimed responsibility of the Murder. The police have recovered the deceased’s body and started the investigation, reported sources.

Notorious Maoist Raino was arrested in Andhra Pradesh

In a separate development on the Maoist front, notorious Maoist Sunil Raino alias Jhulmuru Shrinu babu was nabbed from the Sileru forest area under Sileru police station of Alluri Sitaram Raju district on February 22.

The development came when a team of district police had been on a combing operation in the region when the Maoists suddenly opened fire on them; it’s been learnt that Raino was arrested from the forest after a short fight. The police team has also recovered Maoist literature, an IEd, and other arms and ammunition from the spot.

It’s been learnt that Julmuru babu, a resident of Addateegala, has been active in the Maoist outfit for over two decades and was deputed as the divisional committee member of the Andhra Odisha Border committee of the proscribed CPI-Maoist.

During these years, he was assigned different roles in the organisation, including his deputations in the protection squad of former central committee leader Hargopal aka Ramkrishna; he had also worked for the technical team of the Ultras.

He is one of the prime accused in the Araku MLA double murder of 2018, for which he has been hunted since then; he has also been named in some other cases for which a reward of Rs 5 lakh has already been placed on him, said an official familiar with the development.

On September 21, 2018, hundreds of armed Maoists surrounded the Livtiput village of Dumriguda. They brutally killed the then MLA Kidari Sarweshwar Rao and former MLA Simeri Soma in the undivided Visakhapatnam District of Andhra Pradesh.
