A jawan of Chhattisgarh police was hacked to death by suspected cadres of the proscribed CPI Maoist in insurgency-hit Bijapur District of the state on February 20.

The incident occurred when the deceased, identified as Panni vetti, a resident of Bijapur, was hacked to death by unknown persons on February 20 near Belchar village under Bhairamgarh police station of Bijapur.

Vetti was said to be on leave and had reached Belchar to attend a marriage of his cousin uninformed. As per the reports, he was attacked by axes and other sharp weapons, after which some passers-by found his body near Belchar.

Although no pamphlet or banner has been traced at the spot, the villagers and the police suspect that the Maoist can be behind this gruesome murder.

The deceased had recently completed his training in Visakhapatnam, from where he had gone to attend the marriage of his cousin.

Earlier in the day, armed Maoists had also attacked and killed two personnel of Chhattisgarh police posted in the Bortalav camp near the Maharashtra border in Rajnandgaon.

It is worth mentioning that there is a tug-of-war going on between the ruling congress government and the opposition BJP, after as many as four party workers of the latter have already been killed by the Ultras in the last month alone.

NIA files Chargesheet in 2022 attack

While in a separate development on the Maoist front, the National Investigative Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet in the Bogla-Pangur 2022 attack.

As per the reports, a charge sheet has been filed against Kawasi Ganga, aka Kawasi anil. The charge sheet has been filed in connection with the case registered by the Chhattisgarh police in Modakpal, and the NIA re-registered the case in October last year.

Briefing the media on the development, an official of the investigative agency informed that Jawani had been arrested on August 8 2022, a day after the encounter between the security forces and armed cadres of the outlawed CPI Maoist near Bogla Pangur forest area, weapons and a huge quantity of ammunition had also been seized from the possession of Kawasi.

It should be noted that Kawasi had been charged under the UAPA acts, and a charge sheet for the same has been filed before a special NIA court in Jagdalpur.
