New Delhi: “Journalism students should learn how to do their jobs without feeling pressed and they should help to strengthen democracy. Students can learn from Malkani ji’s life what are the duties of a journalist towards his country, said Senior Journalist Dr Swapan Dasgupta at the Birth Centenary event of Shri K R Malkani.
“The foremost quality of a journalist is that you should practise journalism by looking at the facts in an unbiased manner, not having any personal bias and malice”, he added.
A Book ‘KR Malkani: First Free Press Warrior,’ edited by Organiser Editor Prafulla Ketkar, was also launched at the birth centenary programme of eminent journalist Shri K R Malkani during the ‘Friday Dialogue’.
IIMC Director General Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi said that “Malkani ji was one of those people who saw the making and changing of India. Remembering him is like remembering our ancestor who showed us the way how journalism should be”.
“The spirit of building India and providing justice to the common man was in his writings. He was one of those journalists who did not compromise even during the Emergency”, Sanjay Dwivedi added.
Shri Prafulla Ketkar, editor-Organiser, said that “It is surprising that the name of Malkani ji, whose editorials on ‘free speech’ & ‘free press’ started talking about press freedom, is not even mentioned in the current ‘free speech debate.'”
“His book’ Political Mysteries’ is a great example of investigative journalism. It explains various political issues which had drastic effects on the world like, how the former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri died in suspicious circumstances, Under what mysterious circumstances was Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya murdered? Much before the emergency was declared, he started talking about emergency and that’s how came under the radar of Indira Gandhi and he was the first person to be arrested when emergency was proclaimed”, Prafulla Ketkar added.
