Ranga Reddy: A case of ragging has been registered in the Rangareddy district of Telangana, where a student of Business School was thrashed for allegedly commenting on Prophet Mohammed.

The victim was physically and sexually assaulted by a group of hooligans and was forced to chant ‘Allahu Akbar’.

According to the police, a case under sections 307, 323, 450, 342, 506 r/w 34 IPC, Sec 4 (i)(ii) of TS Prohibition of Ragging Act has been registered. So far, five accused have been arrested.

After finding the negligence on the management’s part, the police stated that the college management will also be booked in the FIR.

“FIR is being altered and more relevant sections will be added, and college management’s name will also be added. Further investigation is underway,” stated the police.

Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rachana Reddy on Sunday demanded a proper investigation into a matter.

Speaking to ANI, Reddy said, “An undergraduate law student was physically assaulted and sexually harassed by his friend on campus.  Friends or other students or seniors but a group of 15-20 hooligans on the campus assaulted this boy for allegedly making statements against Islam and the Prophet Mohammed.

She further slammed the K Chandrashekar Rao government for not taking action immediately into the matter.

“We don’t know what statements were made but the fact that absolutely no action was taken. Apparently, an FIR has been registered but there is absolutely no information as to what the hooligans wanted and what was the cause of the said abuse and assault. Don’t know what the ministers, MLAs and the entire state government are doing about this incident,” she said.

She further said that the State government is turning blind eye to the rights and issues of the people.

“This is a pattern wherein in Telangana including the surrounding areas of Hyderabad as well, the State government is turning blind eye to the rights and issues of the people.  It is not about religion here but in the name of secularism, they are actually being pseudo-secularism where such provocative incidents are unnoticed and nobody from the Home Department is informing the general people about protecting themselves and dos and don’ts,” the BJP leader said.

The BJP leader said that her party demands a full-fledged inquiry into this incident, to see what exactly is the cause because the communalisation of an incident itself is dangerous to the peace and security of the state.

“BJP demands a proper investigation and inquiry be taken up in this because the student unfortunately was abused assaulted and allegedly sexually harassed as well. Hence, a proper inquiry into these allegations of what happened, exactly what was the cause of such serious physical assault, abuse and sexual harassment has to go and action should be taken,” she added.

According to Shankarpally Police, it was found that a total of 10 students had come to the hostel room of the victim boy and thrashed him.

“There was also negligence from the college management in initiating the action upon the students immediately after receiving a complaint from the victim student,” stated the police.
