On 26 June, 2022, a group of gay Muslim buddies murdered Hindu youth Yash Rastogi, 22, in the Pilokhadi neighbourhood of Meerut. They then dismembered and dumped his body parts down a sewer. All four suspects have been taken into custody by the Meerut police, and additional inquiries are being made. Law student Yash Rastogi died tragically.

LLB student Yash Rastogi, a resident of Jagriti Vihar Sector 6 in the Medical police station area of Meerut, was murdered by his gay Muslim pals, who then sliced up and dumped his lifeless body into a sewer close to Pilokhadi. On 2 July, late at night, the Meerut police found the decomposing body pieces in the drain. The apprehended suspects admitted to sodomising the dead boy before killing him, according to the police investigation.

The deceased, Yash Rastogi of Jagriti Vihar in Meerut, went missing after he left to meet the main accused, Shavez, at his workshop in the Fatehullapur area on the evening of 26 June. Yash’s family lodged a missing complaint on the morning of 27 June.

An analysis of Yash’s Call Detail Records (CDR) and footage from CCTV cameras revealed that around 4 pm on 26 June, he had reached Shavez’s power loom workshop, in his scooter.

Police confirmed that Yash met Shavez, 29, through Grindr — a gay dating app — about three-four months ago.

Shavej and Ali, also known as Alijaan, allegedly admitted to having a homosexual relationship with Yash while being questioned by the police. The crime happened on June 26. The defendants had homosexual connections with Yash prior to his murder. Later, they used a knife to hack off his neck. His body was then divided into many parts and placed in a bag before being dumped down the drain.

Areas in Meerut like Hapud Adda, Lisadi Gate, and Shastri Nagar are extremely sensitive so the dead body was recovered late in the night to avoid any kind of ruckus by the crowd that would gather on the spot to support the accused.
