According to the media reports, both the Islamists had ties with the extremist organisation Dawat-e-Islami in Karachi, which is connected to the Barelvi Tehreek-e-Labbaik group of Pakistan. This was revealed as a result of the investigation into the brutal beheading of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur.

Riyaz Attari, 38, of Bhilwara, and Ghous Mohammed, 39, of Udaipur, beheaded a Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Tuesday with knives just because his son made a social media post supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s remarks on the Mohammed. According to the local media reports, Attari, a welder, made the knives for butchering.

Both the terrorists were arrested by the Rajasthan Police at Rajsamand while on their way to shoot another video at the Ajmer Sharif shrine after beheading Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur for supporting alleged blasphemy. The two Islamists had already distributed the murder video within their WhatsApp group, which became viral a few minutes after the dastardly crime. In the murder video, the two highly radicalised Islamists even threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Interrogation of the terrorists revealed that the two belonged to the Sufi-Barelvi sect of Sunni Islam and had close links with Dawat-e-Islami in Karachi. While the two were self-radicalised, efforts are being made to find out whether they had any links with other extremist Sunni organisations in India. The two have been booked under the UAPA, and the case is now being handed over to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The Post-Mortem Report

The post-mortem report of Kanhaiya Lal revealed that he was attacked 26 times on his body from his neck to shoulder. Kanhaiya Lal, after being attacked with sharp weapons, died due to excessive bleeding.

Kanhaiya Lal was stabbed 7 to 8 times specifically on his neck while he had more than 24 injury marks on his entire body, revealed the post-mortem report.
