India to be the official ‘Country of Honour’ at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film

New Delhi: India will be the official ‘Country of Honour’ at the upcoming Marche’ Du Film, organized alongside the Cannes Film Festival in France.

The festival will be organized from May 17, said Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur during a press conference.

He said that France and India are marking 75 years of their diplomatic ties, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris and meeting with President Emmanuel Macron takes even more significance in this context.

The Minister said that it is in this significant diplomatic backdrop that India has been chosen as the ‘Country of Honour’ at Marche’ Du Film at the Cannes Film Festival.

Notably, this is for the first time that such honour is being bestowed on any country.

I&B Minister further said that the Country of Honour Status to India ensures India’s presence as Focus Country at the Opening Night of Marche du Film being organized at the Majestic Beach.

India is also a Country of Honour at the Cannes Next, under which five new Start-Ups would be given an opportunity to pitch to the Audio-Visual Industry.

Ten professionals will participate in the Animation Day networking.

Another highlight of India’s participation would be the World Premiere of the Movie “Rocketry” produced by R. Madhavan. The movie will be showcased in the Palais K. of the market Screening on May 19.

India has been given an opportunity to pitch five selected movies at the “Goes to Cannes Section”.

These movies are part of the WIP lab under the Film Bazaar. A Cinema Hall called the Olympia Screen has been dedicated to India on May 22 for the screening of Unreleased Movies. There are five Movies which have been selected under this category.

This year the India Pavilion carries a theme – ‘India the Content Hub of the World’. This will showcase Indian cinema across the country’s linguistic, cultural, and regional diversities.
