Guwahati: Just one day after its inauguration, the seven cancer hospitals inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Assam on Thursday have become operational from today onwards.
The seven cancer care hospitals have started treating cancer patients in the state from Friday. PM Modi and Tata Trust chairman Ratan Tata inaugurated the cancer care centres in Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Mangaldoi, Barpeta, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, and Jorhat districts in Assam. This has brought huge relief to the cancer patients of Assam and the rest of the Northeast.
Many patients have started getting treated and are visibly happy that they don’t have to travel out of the state for treatment, said Dr Sanjeev Hazarika, Superintendent of Tezpur cancer care centre.
Meanwhile, the cancer hospital in Lakhimpur has also become operational with OPD services.
The cancer hospital in Kokrajhar has also started providing OPD services to patients. Patients began turning up on Friday to avail the services in the new hospital.
Similar scenes were in Barpeta cancer hospitals. Patients turned up on the first day itself to get themselves treated.
Dibrugarh cancer care centre, situated in the Assam medical college hospital campus, has also started treating cancer patients. Dibrugarh Centre will primarily benefit Arunachal Pradesh patients.
