NIA filed a charge sheet against 16 Pro Khalistan supporters, part of SFJ, and attached their Punjab based properties under UAPA.
A three-member team of NIA has reached Canada on Friday (November 5) to investigate the foreign funding links of terror organisations.
The team will investigate the funding of NGOs by separatist organisations like Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Babbar Khalsa International, Khalistan Zindabad Force, and Khalistan Tiger Force during their four-day visit.
Headed by an IG- level officer, the team will probe the foreign funding routes from Canada, the UK, USA, Australia, France and Germany.
NIA filed a charge sheet on December 9, 2020, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, against SFJ, which operates from foreign soil and plotting a conspiracy against India under the banner of "Referendum 2020" for the creation of Khalistan.
The farmers' protest in India saw a huge backing of pro-Khalistan elements. SFJ announced a cash reward of $1 million for farmers as support for the protest and tried to link the farmers' protest to the anti-Sikh riots.
SFJ is a banned terrorist organisation in India and has the backing of Pakistan's ISI. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, the founder of SFJ, was declared a terrorist by MHA.
