Imphal: A gold smuggler was held in Imphal airport while trying to smuggle 900 gm of gold hiding inside his rectum. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed in airport security on Monday (September 27) evening, arrested Mohammed Sheriff of Kozhikode, Kerala from Imphal airport while trying to board a Delhi bound flight.
A statement issued by the paramilitary force says the gold has been weighed 909 grams and valued at approximately ₹ 42 lakh.
A CISF sub-inspector reportedly noticed the presence of a metal in passenger Mohammed Sheriff's rectal cavity. When asked about the metal, authorities said he did not come up with a 'satisfactory' answer.
Sheriff was then taken to the medical exam room for an X-Ray of his lower body, and the reports showed that he had concealed metallic items (gold paste) in the rectum of his body. The man eventually confessed, after which senior CISF officials and the customs department were alerted.
A resident of Kozhikode in Kerala, Shereef, was to fly from Imphal to Delhi on an Air India flight at 2:40 pm on Monday. A senior police source in Imphal says that many gold smuggling rackets from Kerala are active in Manipur. Because of the strict vigil of police, the smugglers now try bizarre ways to smuggle gold. Kerala has been the hub of smuggled gold; these gangs are quite active in Manipur. Police are investigating the matter to nab the gold smuggling racket from Kerala.
