The Uttar Pradesh government announced it would name roads in the state in honour of Kar Sevaks who were killed on the orders of then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in October and November 1990.
On October 30 and November 2 in 1990, police had opened fire on the kar sevaks on the order of then Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. More than 50 people had lost their lives.
Ram and Sharad Kothari from Kolkata were among the victims.
The Yogi Adityanath government had already named a road in Ayodhya in the name of Kothari brothers.
Now, the government has decided to honour all the other martyred Kar Sevaks. The roads will be called Balidani Ram Bhakt Marg and respective Kar Sevaks pictures will be displayed on the plaques.
On many occasions, Mulayam Singh Yadav justified the firing and even said if more Kar Sevaks would have been required to be killed he would have done it.
The sister of Kothari brothers, Purnima Kothari, was one of the invitees for the bhoomi poojan in Ayodhya on August 5 last year.
Because of the Covid-19 restrictions, the invitee list was highly pruned. Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust decided to honour the sacrifice of the Kothari brothers.
