The Union government Monday welcomed the suggestions made by the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh about the ways to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Singh had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday.

The government also requested Dr Singh to provide some advice to the Congress-ruled states where positive cases are spiralling out of control.

The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan replied that the government had already provided funds to the vaccine manufacturing units to ramp up their production.

He further added that the government had also provided emergency use authorisation to some foreign vaccines with aim to vaccinate maximum number of people in minimum time.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan also requested Dr. Singh to ask the Congress leaders to refrain from spreading fake news about the vaccines.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had recently cast aspersions on the vaccines manufactured in Bharat.

The minister also reminded Dr. Singh about Bharat being the only developing country that has the distinction of manufacturing two vaccines against Covid-19.

Pune based serum Institute of India is manufacturing CoviShield. Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech is manufacturing Covaxin.

Both the vaccines are not just used in the country but also have been exported to about 70 countries.

The government has been requesting public figures to get vaccines and also publicise it to counter the vaccine hesitancy.
