The Maharashtra Government and the former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh Tuesday moved Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order of CBI inquiry into the corruption allegations against Deshmukh.
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh used to set the extortion target of INR 100 crore every month from the commercial establishments in Mumbai.
The Bombay High Court had Monday ordered the CBI to conduct an investigation into the allegations and submit the preliminary report in 15 days.
Things started unfolding in Maharashtra when a gelatin laden vehicle was found outside the billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani’s residence on February 25.
The vehicle owner Mansukh Hiren was found murdered soon after.
The wife of Mansukh Hiren accused Sachin Waze, a Mumbai Police official, of murdering her husband.
After huge protests by the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, the Maharashtra Government shunted out Parambir Singh.
In an explosive letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Singh accused Deshmukh of corruption.
