The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen will contest the assembly polls in West Bengal, announced AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi Tuesday.

Owaisi did not disclose the number of seats his party would be contesting. He said he would disclose it in a public meeting in Sagardighi on March 27.

Earlier, Owaisi was banking on influential Furfura Sharif preacher Abbas Siddiqui for his electoral fortunes in West Bengal.

But, Siddiqui launched his own political party and joined the alliance of the Left Front and the Congress.

This dampened the spirit of Owaisi and caused a huge delay in the rollout of election campaigning of AIMIM.

The voting for the 294 seats of the West Bengal Assembly is spread over eight phases, starting March 27. The counting of votes will start on May 2.
