A Delhi court Tuesday upheld the conviction and sentencing of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti in the 2016 AIIMS case.
Bharti, along with his supporters, had demolished a fence wall of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi in September 2016. He had also assaulted the security guards on duty.
In January this year, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ravindra Pandey had sentenced Bharti to two years in jail. The magistrate had also imposed a fine of INR 1 lakh.
The MLA had challenged the magistrate’s order in the court.
As per a Supreme Court judgment of 2013, Bharti stands immediately disqualified from the Legislative Assembly of Delhi.
