The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi mocked North Indians saying they don’t do intelligent politics. He was addressing a gathering in Trivandrum in Kerala Tuesday.

Rahul also lamented that the people of North India don’t understand issues in detail.

He represented the Amethi constituency in Lok Sabha from 2004-19. Rahul debuted in electoral politics in 2004.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Smriti Irani defeated Rahul in the 2019 general elections with a margin of over 50,000. He has not visited Amethi, a constituency which he represented for three consecutive terms and is considered Nehru-family’s bastion, since his defeat in 2019.

The BJP launched a frontal attack on Rahul Gandhi saying he has always been a practitioner of “divide and rule” policy.

Smriti Irani, Union Minister and Member of Parliament from Amethi, said it’s an insult to not just the people of Amethi but the whole region. She added,” It is a part of hate politics that Rahul Gandhi does. He was in Assam a few days back and he spewed venom against Gujarat and Gujaratis.”

The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said Bharat is one and no place should be made fun of. He tweeted, “I hail from the South. I am an MP from a Western state. I was born, educated and worked in the North. I represented all of India before the World. India is one. Never run down a region; never divide us.”

Before Rahul Gandhi in 2004, his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi was representing Amethi in Lok Sabha. His father and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had represented Amethi four times in Lok Sabha. Rajiv Gandhi had also debuted in electoral politics from Amethi in 1981.
