Two natives of Wayanad, Muhammad Naufal and Kanuyampatta Shamim was arrested by the Kerala police for raping tribal girls in Mysore. These girls from Wayanad were friends of the two accused and were taken to a Mysore lodge on the New Year eve. Both the girls are minors, while Muhammad Naufal is aged 18 and Shamim is aged 19. The rape incident came out when the father of one of the girls filed a complaint of missing at the police station.
The accused are charged under POCSO act and SC/ST atrocities act. Mananthavadi SMS and DySP are leading the probe. Muhammad Naufal and Shamim will be presented in the POCSO court soon.
