Google online services yesterday (December 14) suffered disruption. The services, including Google’s enterprise tool Workspaces, were down for customers across the world. The affected apps and services include Google Maps, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Slides, Gmail and YouTube. The outage lasted around 45 minutes.
The outage lasted almost 45 minutes across all Google services with users unable to login. Most of the services are now back online. Users faced problems with all Google services, and were unable to access Gmail, YouTube and Google Docs during the global outage.
The website further claims that the aforementioned services are not only facing troubles in India but in many parts of the world including parts of Europe, the United States and more., the website has received complaints from over 26,000 people for YouTube alone.
Google spokesperson attributed the crash of google for about approximately 45 minutes to “an internal storage quota issue”.
“Today, at 3.47AM PT Google experienced an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue. Services requiring users to log in experienced high error rates during this period. The authentication system issue was resolved at 4:32AM PT. All services are now restored,” said Google spokesperson in a statement.
Google first acknowledged there was an issue in relation to Gmail, and for some time, the status page showed red for most services. “We’re aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a majority of users. The affected users are unable to access Gmail. We will provide an update by 12/14/20, 5:42 PM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem.”
Google apologised by saying “Apologising to everyone affected and promising a thorough follow up review to ensure this problem cannot recur in the future.”
It is to be noted that Internet websites mainly social media sites Facebook, Twitter and Instagram crashes every few months, but it for the first time YouTube and Google crashed, which almost never happens.
