Born on January 29, 1970, in Rajasthan, Jaisalmer, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has made a big name in the field of sports. The charge of the independent sports ministry handed over to Rathore in September 2017.
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod has worked as a commissioned officer in the Indian Army”s Grenadiers Regiment. He was posted in Jammu Kashmir region where he fought against terrorists. Later he won the silver medal for India in the 2004 Olympic Games. He raised nation’s name worldwide in “Double Trap Shooting” shooting style. He was honored with Padmashri in 2005 for his excellent performance in Olympics.
For the first time in 70 years of India”s history, a sportsman is handling the responsibility of the Ministry of Sports. History tells us that the sports ministry had never ever given much attention by any central government. He was selected for the post at the time when out of 56 ministries, 41 were given more funds than Ministry of Sports. The opponents were also thrilled with the decision of the central government to entrust the sports ministry on the shoulders of Rajyavardhan.

Khelo India :
Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod took a big decision as soon as he took the charge of the Sports Ministry. He started the “Play India” initiative for the players all over the country. The initiative was launched on September 20, 2017.
The central government has sanctioned Rs 1756 crore for this program for the years 2017-18 to 2019-20. This initiative will nurture the entire “sports ecosystem” of the country. Under this initiative, he organized the running competitions for school students in December 2017. Khelo India initiative is preparing 1000 students. 5 lakh rupees per annum for 8 years are provided for them. They are being prepared for major tournaments worldwide. 1000 players will be selected every year until 2022. This year, the first 1000 players have been selected. International level training facilities will be provided for these selected players. The first batch is sweating hard at the training center.
India”s performance in Commonwealth Games:
It is a matter of great pride for India that in this Commonwealth Games, India bagged 26 gold, 20 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals. Right attitude, improved infrastructure, and enthusiastic approach have shown positive results in Commonwealth Games.
Training centers for the Divyang players:
At the beginning of 2017, the sports minister instituted the first brick country”s first-ever Divya Athletic Training Center (Para Athletic Training Center) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The central government has made a provision of Rs. 50,000 crores for this initiative. While developing this training center, players facilities are considered.
This center will compete with all the international centers in all aspect. The training center has all the state of the art facilities like air-conditioned indoor halls, 100 beds hostel for the players, special arrangements for the players from abroad and large open space for the training of the players.
FIFA Under-17 World Cup:

50 thousand rupees per month for the players who meet certain criteria:
Under the Olympic taskforce, sportspersons who meet certain criteria will be given a stipend of Rs.50, 000 a month. The announcement has been made by the Sports Ministry. Players can get all the training facilities for participating in international events.
The decision to set up National Sports University at Manipur:
The University was formally announced by the finance minister in the budget for 2014. Later, the government of Manipur provided 329.5 acres of land for this purpose. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with Canberra and Victoria University. The university will be started soon after all the legal issues are met. Apart from this, the Olympic task force, the organizing 22nd Asian Athlete Championship, the rural marathon, the rural sports competition, the launch of the Sports Talent Search Portal has started.
Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathod has launched “Hum Fit, India Fit” Challenge under the “Fit India” movement of PM Narendra Modi. The Sports Minister has appealed to the whole country to participate in this movement while holding exercises in his office. This is getting a huge response. India is hoping that country will be ranked first in major international tournaments in the coming days, and further efforts will be made in the near future. This is definitely a positive start.
