” Gujarat used to be 30 % behind Kerala. Now, Gujrat is much much ahead Kerala. I love to have Gujarat model here. There is a scheme for grants to the schools. The idea is to encourage the education among the girls. No other state in Bharat does have it,” says Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasios, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Chengannur, ahead of Chengannur Bypoll

Thomas Mar Athanasios, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Chengannur

Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasios, Metropolitan of the Diocese of Chengannur, said on May 8, 2018 that Gujarat is much ahead of Kerala in development and that state should be the model for development. He praised both Gujarat model and the policies and the programmes of PM Narendra Modi. He was speaking to Janam TV channel. He added that Kerala is reluctant to implement central schemes in the state, because a “different movement” rules the state. Here are the major points Metroplitan spoke:

Gujarat used to be 30 % behind Kerala. Now, Gujrat is much much ahead Kerala. I love to have Gujarat model here. There is a scheme for grants to the schools. The idea is to encourage the education among the girls. No other state in Bharat does have it. Every day newspapers carry central schemes. Poor people are benefitted by them. Houses are built for the poor. These are not jokes. Referring to the poor traffic system in Chengannur, the priest said, he was just back from Guajrat. Lot of flyovers are constructed there for smooth traffic. The high priest told that science classes commenced in Gujarat schools on April 21. They start regular classes on June 22. Here SSLC results are published. But, no one knows when do we commence classes.

Metropolitan said, he likes to say on top of his voice that in the realm of development and education Kerala still trails. He has told the incumbent Kerala minister when he met him in his offices.

The Metropolitan’s disclosures indicate the mood of the Christian community in Chengannur constituency which goes to polls this month. Constituency faces a by-election where BJP candidate Adv. P.S. Sreedharan Pillai is all set to win. Since he has won the hearts of minorities as well as all sections of Hindu communities the senior party leader is a sure winner. In 2016 CPM candidate won the election scoring 52,880 votes where as Sredharan Pillai bagged 42,682. He came third in the tight triangular contest. Congress candidate got 44,897 and came second. Voting percentage was 36.382, 30.893 and 29.364 respectively. The unexpected death of the LDF MLA resulted in the by-election.

Several major changes have taken place in the political climate since 2016. That BJP and Adv. Pillai could win the confidence of the minorities is very important. Civil war between CPM and CPI within LDF is a significant development. In the meanwhile the Metropolitan’s words will make serious changes in the mind set of the wavering voters. In view of these factors, the people of Kerala awaits BJP’s second MLA to enter the legislative assembly shortly. The versatile genius will be the first choice of the voters as he is a veteran lawyer, decent TV debater, acknowledged poet, regular columnist in several newspapers and weeklies and author of more than 100 books despite the busy life.
