The call of the ISIS to exterminate cow worshippers is nothing new but a reiteration of the 14 century old doctrine to destroy idols and kill their worshippers. This is the very principle on which the entire framework of the ISIS is built. Also, no living being, animal, or bird is to be venerated, drawn or pictured. By visualising God in a definite form is considered the worst sin by their religion and the only punishment prescribed for the “offenders” is the sword. However, if the “sinners” repent and are ready to convert,  they are pardoned and allowed to live.

Politics, Protest or Probe?

( Organiser , 31.1.2016); Apropos to the article ‘Politics, Protest or Probe?’ by Nagaraja Rao in Organiser. I would say that Rohith Vemula is not the first case of dalit student committing suicide in our premier educational institutions but it must be the last. Bharat cannot afford to lose another Rohith. His suicide note has shaken the conscience of the nation. Because of circumstances of their birth and upbringing they are driven to extremist ideologies but society should not punish them for that—society should have a tolerant and humane attitude towards them. Now that the Prime Minister has condoled his death it must be enquired as to the circumstances that “drove him to suicide”, responsibility fixed and guilty punished. Also a mechanism should be put in place so that such incidents are not recurred in our institutions of higher learning.

Bridging the GULF

(Organiser,30.8.2015);This refers to the article ‘Bridging the Gulf’ in Organiser by Dr. Satish Kumar. The clarion call given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi during his visit to UAE about decisive action to be taken by the two countries to halt the march of extremism by ISIS has to be heeded by one and all. Doing too little and too late is disastrous. The brutality unleashed by ISIS has already swept across Iraq and Syria. The carnage of civilians in these two countries clearly shows the lust for blood by the jihadies. How is it that that the rest of the world has been slow to respond to this mass execution, violence, beheading and above all the sex slavery perpetrated by the ISIS? Shri Modi has opened a new chapter in UAE and his call for joining hands to counter terrorism has the message clear— “The world has to decide whether it is on the side of humanity or on the side of terrorism.”

Law and Emotions

(Organiser, 3.1.2016); This refers to the two articles in Organiser titled ‘Law and Emotions’ by Sanjay Kumar Visen and ‘You never know if the rapist is sitting beside you’ by Nishant Kr Azad. I fail to understand what prevents the Parliament to amend Article 20(1) of the Constitution. The Article must be amended to punish the juvenile criminals as per the rape laws. Secondly in addition to stringent laws there is an urgent need to promote a society of sanskars, a society where one should respect each other and is away from vulgarity and obscenity, so that such heinous crimes are prevented.

Compensation for call drops

The TRAI stipulation requiring the cell phone companies to compensate for call drops  limiting the compensation to three calls dropped per day is un-implementable.  Most of the time calls are dropping while one is on the move. In order to claim the compensation one has to know the location and also the time and keep them as a record. Often the location is mostly unidentifiable. In the absence of the street name and the number of the building at which the call has dropped the cell phone companies can easily reject the   claim saying that it is not precise.  It would be far better if the TRAI requires the DOT  to  have a sample check of the call drops  for each  company in each city at various places , every month  and require the company  to give  a general reduction in the bill for each   subscriber depending upon the number of  calls he makes in  a month.
