Yog has been gifted to mankind for its emancipation by ancient Indian rishis. Now due to the efforts of  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi yog has received world recognition. The International Day of Yog on June 21 was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the world by nearly 200 million people.
Yog is for the welfare of mankind, for their cultural and economic development. It cannot be confined to any religion. Hence it promotes communal harmony and cooperation. It is an established fact that persons performing yog i.e. asan, pranayam and meditation do not suffer from constipation, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol and obesity, etc, and do their jobs with efficiency and vigour. I have seen that the children of such persons are healthy, intelligent and of good character without any physical and mental deformity.
Yog, if done diligently, promotes peace, harmony, honesty, no immoral act, no drugs, anti-terrorism and mutual cooperation among nations creating anti-war atmosphere. Thus hundreds of trillions of dollars which is about one third revenue of the world, spent on armaments and medicines can be significantly reduced within a decade removing poverty of the masses on a big scale. It also checks the exploitation of the weak and poor by the rich and powerful, holding 60 per cent of the global wealth by arousing their conscience. It will be spiritual socialism in action.
This vision, energy, intelligence peace loving nature and sincerity of Prime Minister Shri Modi is due to his regular practice of yog and regular meditation for 90 minutes since many years. The same thing can be said about Baba Ramdev.
I have been doing yog taught by my yogic father since 50 years, morning and evening, hence my health is the same as 50 years before, and  there is a  growth of more than hundred times in my diamond business. I have seen poor people taking heavy loans for treatment of their family members and falling deeper in poverty. World has seen how tremendous destruction of property and wealth is going on through violence and terrorism increasing global poverty and recession day by day. Yog and meditation can solve it.
The commercial side of yog is very important for India. Where a home based yog instructor can make a tidy living earning between 25,000/- to two lakh a month (Times 21.06.2015). Yogic tourism to Rishikesh, (India) will increase many fold in near future with great economic benefit.
Yog is $27 billion industry in the US. There is a good scope of expansion of yog in India in the coming decade, giving employment to millions of people. Some two crore Americans are occasionally practicing yog because it gives them physical fitness and mental peace. Michelle Obama is keen on yog to develop flexibility and balance (Times 21.06.2015). All the above facts prove that the greatest problems  related to poverty, corruption and violence can be solved through yog as visualised by the great ancient rishis of India.                      –Anandshankar Pandya
