Justice VR Krishna Iyer inaugurated the signature campaign for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry into the Maradu carnage of May 2, 2003. He put the first signature in the memorandum. Memorandum is floated by Bharatheeya Malsya Pravarthaka Sangham Keralam, a Sangh Parivar organisation, and is addressed to the Hon. Prime Minister of India. It draws the kind attention of the PM to the brutal killings of 8 innocent Hindu fishermen by Islamic fundamentalists. Even though some people were tried as per Kerala Police enquiry and sentenced to punishments, lot of questions concerning this shocking incident still remain unanswered. The judicial enquiry commission, which carried out an enquiry into the carnage, has ascertained that foreign links and fund raising had occurred with respect to the massacre. It has also made it clear that a national enquiry agency should enquire into those aspects. Government of Kerala had recommended for the CBI enquiry twice, thanks to the pressure of various movements, individuals and media, but the country’s premier enquiry agency turned it down both the times. The “culprits” behind the inhuman killings are still ruling the roost in the State hence the memorandum requests to the PM for his kind intervention in the matter.
