Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat has questioned the huge expenditure on the medical treatment of IAS, IPS and IFS category officers in abroad. In a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh recently the Panchayat said that at the time when many outsiders from world over visits India for quality medical treatment, it is improper to allow our own officers to get medical treatment in abroad and thus wasting huge foreign exchange.
“The government has extended medical treatment outside the country to IAS, IPS and IFS services (Times of India dated 11.09.2013) thus confirming a different class in the society like British. On the contrary the Constitution of India provides for equality to all citizens subscribing a gap in words and actions. In addition Supreme Court judgement on September 16, 2013 disapproves concept of treating human beings differently. Is it good governance or we are still in British era? Hence your response to ensure justice to rest of society need review. It is pertinent to highlight that many outsiders visit India for treatment. Therefore, it will be appropriate to improve healthcare to the satisfaction of this category to save foreign exchange, the need of hour. Moreover, instead of classification it will serve the whole society as mark of unity and integrity,” the letter said.
