Acharya Vishnukant Shastri Memorial Lecture

—Dr Shivgopal Mishra

If we wish to make Hindi a powerful national language, we will need a separate dedicated dictionary for the purpose, this is the need of the hour. Hindi is lagging behind English in the national consciousness as well as in imparting scientific education to the populace, said the head of the Vigyan Parishad prayag and the editor of Vigyan magazine, Dr. Shivgopal Mishra. He was speaking at a function organised by Shree Burrabazar Kumarsabha Pustakalaya.

Speaking on the topic ‘Vigyan Vidha and Hindi’, he expressed regret that scientific knowledge had become a business instead of a mission. He said scientific knowledge should be made available to the public in Hindi; he cited the example of Japan in this regard. The organising secretary, Dr. Krishna Bihari Pandey, said it was sad that the learned people of today are ashamed to speak in Hindi. The allusion was made about Shri Vishnukant Shastri who had encouraged learning in Indian languages. Among the learned guests at the function were  Dr. Tara Duggad, Mahavir Bajaj, Dr. Premshankar Tripathi, Dr. Krishna Bihari Pandey, Dr. Hrishikesh Rai and Shrimati Durga Vyas.
